Make A Difference Week-Oct. 17-22, 2011

This year the Jacksonville Job Corps Center partnered with the Susan G. Komen Foundation to provide over 174 man hours of Community Service. The students began their service for this National Initial on October 17th, everyday after their training day students loaded into vans and was transported to the work area to stuff packets.

The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is an annual event that attracts over 5000 runners and walkers, this year was no different. The students stuffed over 3000 of the 5000 packets that was needed for the participants. They folded hundreds of t-shirts, put up over 50 tables and place hundreds of chairs for the events.

The students assisted with setting up and breaking down the equipment for the event. On the day of the race the center had volunteers as well as participants in the race. Robert Thornton and Gabriel Davis ran the 3 mile race in 29 minutes while other Job Corps participants including the Center Director walked the 3 mile trail.  Our volunteers arrived on site at 5:30a.m. to work before participating in the race.

In addition to volunteering the SGA led the student body and staff to raise over $600.00 to donate to this worthy cause of fighting breast cancer. Our students Made The Difference during this national event.
