Sierra Nevada Celebrates Veterans, Give Back to Country’s Heroes

Veteran’s Day was a busy day for students at Sierra Nevada Job Corps Center.  Early Veteran’s Day morning, 43 students marched in the downtown Reno Veteran’s Day Parade.  The students marched in formation, while flagbearers carried flags from each military branch, as well as the United States flag.  The students were especially glad for the opportunity to march in the parade to recognize the service of Sierra Nevada Job Corps students who continued on to the military after completing the program.  They were also thankful for every soldier whose sacrifices for our country have ensured our freedom.

Sierra Nevada’s Painting students and their instructor were recognized for their tremendous contributions at the ribbon cutting for the new building addition of the Veteran’s Guest House.  The Veteran’s Guest House is a local nonprofit that provides a place for veterans to stay when they need to receive treatment at the Reno Veteran’s Administration Hospital and have nowhere to stay.  Veteran’s Guest House Chief Operating Officer Noreen Leary mentioned the students efforts during the opening of the new building and thanked them for all they did.  The students volunteered 395 hours of work to the building and made the new addition a beautiful, calming place for veterans to stay.  Some of the students were able to meet Congressman Mark Amodei, who was in attendance.

Sierra Nevada Job Corps Center was extremely grateful to be able to give back to our country’s heroes and looks forward to continuing to support our veterans and servicemen and women.
