Cleveland Job Corps Center (CJCC) Student Ambassadors accompanied by Business Community Liaison, Mi-chael E. Taylor, volunteered on May 3, 2014 for the Green It Up event. CJCC students and staff teamed up with several community organizations, residents, and businesses to enhance Cleveland’s Central Neighborhood through area clean ups, planting, watering, and mulching trees. The trees were ob-tained from Davey Tree Resource Group, who helped plant trees, as well as, edu-cated volunteers on the proper way to plant trees. Mulch and topsoil were donated from Kurtz Bros., Inc. Volunteers had an urban tree identification walking tour through the neighborhood and a workshop on tree care, which was provided by the Holden Arboretum. Trees, urban tree canopy, and green spaces are known to mitigate air and water quali-ty challenges, increase property values, lower crime rates, and improve the overall quality of life for resi-dents, especially children. “Thank you and your stu-dents for coming out to our Green It Up event this past Saturday. “Because of their work, our event was truly a success,” stated Caitlyn Neely, Americorps VISTA.
