Muhlenberg Job Corps Celebrates Mental Health Month

About 1 in every 5 American adults will have a mental health condition in any given year, but only 41 percent of them will receive services.  About 10 percent of the American adult population will have a mood disorder, such as depression or bipolar, and 18 percent have an anxiety disorder, including post-traumatic stress disorder.  In May, the Muhlenberg Job Corps Center professionals, staff and students celebrated Mental Health Month by promoting mental health awareness campus wide.    Mental health is essential to everyone’s overall health and well-being and all Americans experiences times of difficulty and stress in their lives.   Prevention is an effective way to reduce the burden of mental health conditions.  With effective treatment, those individuals with conditions can recover and lead full, productive lives.

Eddie DeArmond, Mayor of Greenville, Kentucky signed a proclamation proclaiming May 12, 2014 as Mental Health Month.  The proclamation states he calls upon the citizens, government agencies, public and private institutions, businesses and schools in Muhlenberg County to recommit our community to increasing awareness and understanding of mental health.
