Charleston Job Corps Participates in Annual United Way Day of Caring-Sept. 17, 2014

The Charleston Job Corps Center volunteered with United Way of Central WV, Day of Caring, September 17, 2014. The event started with a kick-off rally at the Charleston Civic Center hosted by John Ballengee, Executive Director. Guests watched a video presentation of individuals served by the United Way and informed on ways they can help serve beyond the Day of Caring. A live panel discussion was held with individuals and organizations that support giving back to the community. The stage was set for over 600 volunteers in Kanawha, Boone, Logan, and Putnam to go out and impact their local communities. This year’s theme was “Generations United to Give” and all ages were represented in this annual event.

The Charleston Job Corps Center operated by Horizons Youth Services believes in giving back to the community through various projects throughout the year. Students and staff of the Charleston Job Corps Center organized, cleaned, removed trash and prepared the attic of the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Society (Animal Shelter). This is the second year the center has participated in Day of Caring under the direction of Tia Welch, Business Community Liaison. A special thanks to Lisa Hudnall, Community Services Director at United Way Central WV and all the staff for an opportunity to serve our community. Volunteers include: Stacey Farley, Franklin Damron, Morgan McClelland, Dalley Maynard, Naaila Gant, Meagan Sponseller, Trevor Fuhrman, Willie Brown, Center Director, Tia Welch, Business Community Liaison and Shawn Smith, Leadership Coordinator.
