Clearfield Students Building Bridges

The Battle of the Bridges took place at Salt Lake Community College Meadowbrook Campus on 04/08/15 at 2:00pm. The teams that took place came from BYU, Weber State, DATC, Ogden-Weber Community College and Salt Lake Community College.

The Universities faced off as did the three Community Colleges. There were three cash prizes awarded to the two categories.

Job Corps students from the DATC were separated into two groups: The Bear-Sharks and Layed Up.

Team 1, the Bear Sharks, consisted of: Steven Goodwin and Edwin Zarate Andrade. I have attached their picture and that of their bridge which weighed in at 10.61 g (2.23 lbs) and withstood 10,670 lbs of pressure–putting them in 4th place.

Team 2: Layed-up, consisted of Dalton Boggs, Daniel Hovis, Joseph Bronson and Brent Bell. I have attached their picture and that of the bridge they entered, which weighed in at 10.26 g (2.02 lbs) and held 10,730 lbs of pressure putting them in 3rd place–prize they will receive is $100.00 total.

The first prize winner was a non-Job Corps DATC student and he won $200.00, second prize went to Ogden-Weber student, $150.00.

The instructors were extremely proud of our students and the students themselves were quite overwhelmed to have placed on their first time competing alongside people who have had more experience or training.

I have attached group photo of the DATC participants.

Congratulations to them… what a wonderful event.
