Two Glenmont Job Corps Student Join United States Marines

On Wednesday afternoon, September 23rd, Glenmont JCC students gathered in the auditorium for what they believed would be a typical, monthly CSIO assembly. However, they were all in for a surprise. Two of their peers, Mark Rivera and Dequawn White, had made a decision to enlist in the United States Marine Corps upon their completion of their Job Corps studies, and on that day, Staff Sergeant Greene of the USMC visited Glenmont to perform a swearing-in ceremony for these two young men in front of the entire staff and student body.

The auditorium erupted with applause and cheering in support of Rivera and White as they marched to the stage with SSGT Greene, who then addressed the crowd about the great commitment the two students had made to the US Marine Corps. He spoke of the importance of physical fitness in the Marines and of the enormous responsibility and honor of defending our country. The room filled with congratulatory praise and cheers from proud onlookers to this special event.

Dequawn White is scheduled to begin his USMS training in November, and Mark Rivera in January. Glenmont JCC is so proud of both of you and we wish you the best of luck!
