Success Story: Former Student William Lawrence Returns to the Joliet Job Corps Center to Join Staff

Former Joliet Job Corps Center student William Lawrence seals the employment deal Monday with Center Director Christine Sanchez.

William Lawrence is the newest team member at the Joliet Job Corps Center.

He joined the Career Preparation Department on Monday, taking the position of CPP Advisor.

Mr. Lawrence earned his high school diploma at Thornridge High School in Dolton, Illinois. Although he recently joined the staff, Mr. Lawrence already is a member of the Joliet Job Corps Center family — earlier this year, he completed the Pharmacy Tech program at the Center.

After he finished the Joliet program, Mr. Lawrence went to the Atlanta Job Corps Center to begin Advanced Training as a Certified Human Services Worker. An internship brought him back to Joliet.

“At Joliet Job Corps, we take true owner-ship of our Footsteps Mentoring Program. We take even more ownership of our individual mentees.,” said Christine Sanchez, Center Director. “Will had a family of mentors and he was a pleasure to work with as a student. He definitely took our advice and he grew. We look forward to continuing to mentor him as he develops in his career.”

But first things first.

“One important thing has changed – we need to get used to calling him Mr. Lawrence,” Sanchez said, smiling.
