Banking Best Practices Taught at the Joliet Job Corps Center

Joliet Job Corps Center Students learned on Wednesday how to build a better financial future through the proper use of a checking account.

It was the second installment of a seven-week series of lessons on handling money. Although Pasquinel Taylor, the Career Tran-sition Instructor, teaches students about banking, it has been helpful to have a banking expert such as First Midwest Bank Branch Manager Jen Coyne to instruct the students. Some students find it difficult to grasp the fee structure associated with banking, for example.

Ms. Coyne led the tutorial on Wednesday, and it was particularly beneficial for the students who recently opened their first checking accounts with the bank during Ms. Coyne’s last visit to the Center.

Ms. Coyne showed the students how to fill out a checkbook register as a way to keep track of their spending. She also showed them how to balance their checkbooks and urged them to use online banking tools.
