Global Youth Service Day is recognized at the Job Corps Centers in the month of April. It is a world-wide initiative to ignite a spirit of serving others and volunteerism in young adults.

On April 28, Peer Leadership Coordinator Thanesha Sorrells began taking Joliet Job Corps Center students to Will County Clerk Nancy Schultz Voots’ office to register to vote as part of GYSD. She will be making the trip monthly until November.

The students were so excited to be involved in something that they felt was so important to their future.
“I’m so proud of myself,” Santrell Asby said after returning to the center. For many of the students this will be their first time at the polls. The students also will begin following the televised election coverage in the cafeteria during mealtimes.
