The Cafeteria Goes Green

April 22nd marks the anniversary of Earth Day which began in 1970. In honor of this day, TIJCC implemented a new system designed to save water and ultimately save the environment. We decided to eliminate food trays with hopes of minimizing food waste, the loss of utensils and plates, and water use. Each day the cafeteria uses more than 300 gallons of water to wash trays. Over an entire year, that’s over 100,000 gallons of water! The decision to make the Cafeteria more environmentally friendly was a success, as many students and staff embraced the new dining environment. The SGA Committee was a huge help to the Food Service staff as they worked together over the course of two weeks to make the transition possible. Because of their hard work and efforts, food trays will be permanently removed from the Cafeteria, making it more environmentally friendly all year round. The Food Service staff would like to give special thanks to the SGA and all TI staff for fully supporting the Earth Day changes.
