Alaska Job Corps Celebrates Cultural Diversity with Community

All the mayors were there, along with the Governor and the First Lady.  It was the great Bridge Builders kick-off event in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley in Alaska and Job Corps students were there, performing and sharing food with all the community.  “World Flavors” was the title and Native Alaskans, Native Americans, Spanish, Filipino, Polynesian, Persian and Japanese dancers and drummers joined up with Native Drum groups to celebrate diversity.   The food potluck table was miles long with every type of food, including the Job Corps students’ offerings of baked cod, sushi and rich soup.  Job Corps students also danced with the Mat Su Filipino Community and staff members.  Y2Y (Youth to Youth) P4P (Partners for Peace) is a national Job Corps group against violence and bullying.  Members from Y2Y/P4P were in the audience and outreached with others in the community.  The event started with pledge of allegiance and a prayer for all America, the land that embraces cultures and races from around the world.
