HSW Students Work With United Way of Etowah County

On June 17, 2016, Ms. Sharika Pruitt, Human Service Worker (HSW) Instructor, and eight (8) HSW students volunteered to work with Ms. Jessica Brown, Resource Development and Marketing Director for United Way of Etowah County. Ms. Pruitt and the HSW students participated in the Volunteer Day called “Day of Action”. This event is when volunteers go all across Etowah County to help different organizations. Our staff and students went to Hokes Bluff Elementary School to clean around the school. Ms. Pruitt and her students shoveled rocks into the playground, trimmed bushes around the school, picked up trash, loaded the truck with hedge clippings and branches, used a high pressure washer on the sidewalk, cut grass with a push mower and used a blower to blow off the sidewalks and streets around the school. The Principal of Hokes Bluff Elementary School, Mr. Charles Gardner, said “These Job Corps students were a blessing to us and we could not have done all that we did without them!”
