Blue Ridge (Serrato Corp) students help local nursing Home with “Beach Bash”

On Friday August 19, 2016, 15 Blue Ridge Job Corps students along with Mike Steele BCL went to Francis Marion Manor (nursing home) to assist in a “Beach Bash” activity. From 12:30-4:30 students provided support to all the other nurses and managers as they set up for the event. In an outdoor area inside the nursing home, the students filled water balloons, decorated tables, and prepared the concession for the residents.
After all the preparations were in order, the students accompanied the nursing staff into the building bringing willing residents to the party. Most came in wheel chairs and others with walkers. There was plenty of room. Each resident had their own spot at a table. The weather was overcast with moments of sun, with an occasional sprinkle, but that did not stop everyone form having a good time. Under the gazebo Chief Operating Officer for Smyth County Community Hospital John Tyler and local resident Jeff Campbel each with a guitar, microphone, and harmonicas sang beach music. Students sang along to classics like “My Girl” and “under the Boardwalk “
