Charleston Job Corps Center hosts quarterly CRC Meeting-Friday, April 22, 2017

The Charleston Job Corps Center (CJCC) operated by Horizons Youth Services, held its quarterly Community Relations Council (CRC) meeting on Friday, April 21, 2017 in the center gymnasium. Several members were on hand for presentations from the departments of Finance & Administration, Career Services, Training, Social Development and Human Resources.

The meeting was called to order by Student Government Association (SGA) Treasurer Anthony Johnson followed by the reading of our Daily Motivator by Aaliyah Day, SGA President. Tia Welch, Business Community Liaison welcomed members and staff to the center.

Center Director, Willie Brown provided several center updates including our center ranking of #49 in the nation, contract status and center goals for 2017. Brown encouraged council members to help us reach our On Board Strength (OBS), the center’s design capacity for 307 students.

Members were very receptive and shared ideas to reach OBS while expressing their willingness to share the information with youth 16-24 and related partners to aid recruitment efforts.

During new business partner information was shared. The next meeting will be a joint luncheon with the Workforce Council on July 21, 2017 at 12:00 noon at the Charleston Marriott Town Center. Job Corps is a no-cost education and career technical training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16-24 improve the quality of their lives through career technical and academic training. The Charleston Job Corps Center is overseen by the Philadelphia Regional Office of Job Corps and is operated by Horizons Youth Services.
