“I saw Job Corps as a second chance at life, so I decided to give it a try,” said Michael Martin. Mr. Martin said high school was miserable for him. He was often bullied. It affected his grades and attendance, so he decided to leave school.

On May 2, 2016, Mr. Martin joined the Cleveland Job Corps Center “family.” He completed the program on May 16, 2017, after obtaining his High School Diploma, Carpentry, OSHA, Scaffolding, NCCR, Gasket and Green Awareness credentials. Math was his biggest challenge while attending Job Corps. “Growing up I was always unsuccessful in math class, but when I came here I worked hard and I passed my math class with an A, which I was really proud of,” exclaimed Mr. Martin.

Mr. Martin attended the US Army Swearing In ceremony on March 15, 2017, and left for Basic Training at Fort Benning, Georgia on May 23, 2017. He plans to stay in the military until he can retire. “Cleveland Job Corps has given me the drive and aspiration to work towards my goals, and by doing that, I have reached them,” voiced Mr. Martin. My favorite quote that helped me through Job Corps was “Positive minds, lead positive lives. Keep focused on the things you love in life and don’t let anything slow you down.”
