Tuesday Y2Y Activities at Potomac JCC

Potomac Job Corps Center is celebrating Y2Y Peace Week.  The first full day of activities at Potomac took place on Tuesday, September 20th.  Students heard from staff about the different types of violence and how to combat it.  Staff also shared personal stories from their lives that have shaped them on the topic of violence.  During lunch, students heard from the Metropolitan Police Department about the importance of safe communities and the need to work with the police as a community asset.  Students made anti-violence pledges and were treated to an afternoon cook-out.  After a day of discussion, afternoon activities were provided for the students to enjoy.  Activities included lawn checkers & chess, a rock wall, and an inflatable slide.  Staff and students found the day rewarding and constructive.  Potomac is looking forward to the rest of the week’s activities.

In addition, Potomac Job Corps Center is hosting a student ambassador from each Job Corps Center in the Chicago and San Francisco region.  The visiting students will be participating in activities at Potomac as well as with the Job Corps National Office.  Potomac’s guests were taken on an evening tour of Washington, DC.
