The Charleston Job Corps Center (CJCC) operating under Horizons Youth Services (HYS) is celebrating International Day of Peace during the Youth-2-Youth (Y2Y) Campaign Against Violence Week, Sept. 18-22, 2017. Students and staff will participate in a Peace March on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017 by walking around the center’s track. A balloon launch in the baseball field will climax the march.
According to the website www.internationaldayofpeace.org, The International Day of Peace is held on September 21. The theme for this year is “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All.” The International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) is observed around the world.

Business Community Liaison Tia Welch said, “Today is a day for students and staff to remember all the things that bring us together instead of what keeps us apart. We are better together.” Willie Brown, Center Director spoke to students prior to the balloon launch. Brown said, “I am reminded that injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere. You and I can be voices for change in our communities by promoting peace.”
