On November 4, 2017, Cleveland Job Corps Center (CJCC) Medical Office Support Instructor and 1999 CSU Alumni, Nicole Jackson-Lewis; CJCC Career Preparation Period Instructor, Marketa Carter; CJCC Career Counselor, Talicia Cooper and CJCC Security Officer, Anthony Cook accompanied 22 CJCC students on the 3 ½ hour drive to Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. Central State University is the recipient of the 2017 Historical Black Colleges and University (HBCU) of the Year.

Central State University (CSU) welcomed potential students from Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Illinois to their campus for “Preview Day.” College “Preview Day,” provides potential students a glimpse into college life and the university setting. Students participated in a presentation and information session in the Colleges of their academic interest, and had an opportunity to meet with the Dean and Professors. They also enjoyed a campus tour, and an amazing performance from CSU’s Choir, Marching Marauder Band, and Black Diamond/Belles.

CJCC students are encouraged to consider higher educational opportunities when planning their future goals. “We at the Cleveland Job Corps are proud to have two Cleveland Job Corps alumni who are current Central State University students; Senior, Rashad Black and Sophomore, Mariah Banks,” said Jackson-Lewis. The staff of the Cleveland Job Corps Center are honored to have assisted several graduates with pursing college educations. Current Cleveland Job Corps students Jamice Vargas, LaRonna McElroy, Tierra Lusane and Diamond Williams applied while at “Preview Day,” and are awaiting acceptance for the Spring 2018 semester.
