Blue Ridge Job Corps Women’s History Presentation

For Women’s History month, Mrs. King, the reading instructor at Blue Ridge Job Corps, thought it would be a good idea for students to volunteer to interview female staff members on center to find out about their contributions to and gain a better understanding of history in staffs’ lifetimes. Nineteen staff members volunteered to be interviewed. Students were responsible for setting up the interviews, recording their findings, and presenting them at an assembly. An additional student was responsible for taking pictures of all the staff members for a slide show.

Some students chose to present in Power Point, further strengthening their Information Management skills. This project was a great way for students to better know the staff, gain some historical information, practice their communication skills, and practice confidence in the area of personal growth and development. The students were very excited about the project and enjoyed getting to better know the staff, making them more approachable as strong, female resources in their endeavors to better their lives.
