Muhlenberg Job Corps Hosts 2019 Spring Graduation

Muhlenberg Job Corps held its spring graduation on February 14. Twenty-three graduates enjoyed a full gymnasium of family and friends. The event started with BCL, Brian Hancock, welcoming everyone for their attendance. Meaghan Murphy followed the welcoming by singing the National Anthem. Brian introduced the MJCC graduate speaker, Kyara Wortham, who brought a powerful message of how Muhlenberg Job Corps saved her life.

Two potential advanced training candidates were recognized. Sabin-Proctor, who has applied for his Class A CDL at Clements Job Corps, and Xavier Saulsberry, who applied for the UAW Toyota program at Clearfield Job Corps. Next Brian recognized the On Campus Leadership awards from the Spring 2019 class. Man-Suan Lun received her Perfect Attendance recognition in her ability to demonstrate exceptional accountability. Leisure Time Employment, along with Work Base Learning, found its place in the graduation. There were several that were recognized but Sabin-Proctor received a loud applause for his 909 Work Base Learning hours. This is way above the 148.5 national average for graduates.

Once the awards and recognition phase had finished, Brian introduced the guest speaker, Pastor/Doctor Kevin Milburn. Pastor Milburn has been the Senior Pastor at Second Baptist Greenville since October of 2015. Kevin has been in church ministry since 1996, also serving in associate and youth pastor roles. He has served on the Kentucky Baptist Convention Mission Board, led seven mission trips to Haiti, and has conducted a field study in Israel and Greece.  In 2014 he was elected Vice-President of the Kentucky Baptist Convention.

Kevin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biblical Studies from Boyce College in Louisville, KY, a Master of Divinity degree in Theology from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY, and a Doctor of Ministry degree in Discipleship from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary in Lynchburg, VA.

Kevin brought a message of hope and faith. Kevin talked about what he felt would make every graduate successful in life. Kevin made sure that the students understood that success was not solely a monetary thing. He shared that numerous people had made lots of money but could never find happiness in those accomplishments. Kevin shared his ideas through several stories all leading back to his faith being the basis of what makes him to feel successful.

Several students had been waiting for most important moment of the day, which was when Brian introduced the Valedictorian.  The student body roared when Kyara Wortham was announced as the Valedictorian.  The applause continued with Brandon Bodendorfer receiving the Salutatorian award. Cameron Lewis helped the graduates celebrate their success with a song.

Once diplomas had been distributed and tassels were moved, the graduates found family for pictures and rejoiced because of their achievements. The graduates, along with their family and friends, gathered in the Multi-purpose room for an evening of cake, refreshments and fellowship. MJCC would like to thank all of the graduates for their accomplishments while at MJCC and in future endeavors.
