“I had no idea how much one place could make such a big impact on my life in such a short amount of time,” said Jared. “I needed to get my life together and Cleveland Job Corps was the answer to my prayers.”

Before attending the Cleveland Job Corps Center, Jared was severely misguided. At age 17, he dropped out of high school with no goals or aspirations to further his education. Jared had lost his way and was unsure how he could get back on track. Hanging with the wrong crowd he convinced himself that there was no going back that he was merely another statistic.
After sinking into a hole of desperation in January 2018, he decided to give Job Corps a try. A month later, Jared began taking Pharmacy Technician classes at the Cleveland Job Corps Center. In the span of one year, he received his high school diploma from Penn Foster. Additionally, he obtained his Pharmacy Technician, Serve Safe, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and National Healthcareer Association Certification (NHA) credentials. “To anyone seeking a career in Pharmacy Tech through CJCC, keeping your eye on the big picture is key,” advises Jared. “Stay focused and always take advantage of any study opportunities you are given. Your book is your best friend.”

As a trainee, he learned to adapt to his environment and get to know his peers through a variety of clubs and activities. Jared advocated, and was a member of the LGBT club, which lead to him holding office as the lead Diversity Officer on SGA. He learned how to interact with students and form lasting healthy relationships.

Jared is working full-time as a pharmacy technician at Walgreens. He will be taking classes this Fall at Columbus State Community College. After obtaining his Associates Degree, Jared plans to transfer to Ohio State University to get his Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D. Jared aspires to become a Pharmacist, consistently keeping his future in mind is the biggest motivator to him.

Job Corps is not easy, but the outcome, friends, networking and memories are worth every minute of the time I spent at Cleveland Job Corps,” stated Jared. “I wouldn’t change a single thing about what I experienced because it made me who I am today…  a person I am so very proud of!”
