Cleveland Job Corps Student Success Story

Meet… Jermaine Richey
Age: 21
Hometown: Cleveland, OH
Center: Cleveland Job Corps
Enrollment dates: 07/23/18 – 06/05/19
Career Area: Nursing Assistant
Employer: Excel Home Health Care
Position: Home Health Aide

Jermaine Richey was ineligible to receive a diploma from John Adams High School because he was unable to pass the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT) in 2015. Looking for full-time work without a high school diploma became a challenge, so Jermaine attended an orientation at Ohio Means Jobs where he was referred to Job Corps. After meeting with an Outreach Admissions Counselor and learning that Job Corps has a high school diploma program, Jermaine decided to enroll.

Determined to succeed, Jermaine completed the Nursing Assistant career technical training program and earned his Penn Foster High School Diploma. He also obtained his ServSafe, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, First Aid, and Home Health Aide credentials. Jermaine attributes his success to his classmates, roommates and Carla Widener, State Tested Nursing Instructor, for motivating and encouraging him throughout the program.

He is a proud graduate of Cleveland Job Corps and successfully transitioned out on June 5, 2019. Jermaine is employed at Excel Home Health Care as a Home Health Aide. “Life is about finding yourself,” explained Jermaine.
