CNA grad Kiera Hollins enlists in Army Reserves

Whitney M. Young Job Corps graduate Kiera Hollins, 19, is embarking on new career ventures that will support her goal to continue her education in the health care field.

Hollins, who completed the Certified Nursing Assistant training program at Whitney M. Young Job Corps, is going into the Army Reserves and will be working in human resources. She will complete basic training and advanced individual training at Fort Jackson, SC, which will take about seven months to complete.

Once she completes her military training, she will return to Louisville to continue working at Lyndon Woods Care and Rehabilitation as a CNA. Hollins worked there in her work-based learning internship.

In addition to the training and work experience Hollins will get while in the Army Reserves, she also plans to take advantage of the GI Bill to continue her education in heath care.

The training and education she received at Whitney M. Young Job Corps position Hollins for success. In addition to completing the CNA program, she also obtained her driver’s license.

If Hollins could tell potential Job Corps students one thing, it would be “Take advantage of the free education and money that Job Corps has to offer. It opens so many doorways!”

Hollins, from Pontiac, MI, appreciates the mentorship that staff members at Whitney M. Young Job Corps provided her, and especially thanks Tiffany Johnson, CTT manager and former CNA instructor; Anissia Liberto, CTR specialist; Rosemary Miller, CTR specialist; Ali Morton, CNA instructor; and Gladys Tyler, CPP specialist, for “always helping me keep my head on straight and for not letting me give up on myself.”
