Cleveland Job Corps Do You Like Working with Your Hands? If So, A Career in Carpentry May Be for You.

The Cleveland Job Corps United Brotherhood of Carpenters, Carpentry Pre-Apprenticeship Program is accredited by the Ohio
State Apprentice Council. The 12-month course prepares young men and women to work in a variety of Carpentry settings.
The program centers around a structured, rigorous, and highly physical curriculum. Students learn how to perform the essential tasks of a carpenter including: constructing, installing, and repairing structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard; properly using hand and power tools to shape or cut materials to specified measurements; building rough wooden structures such as concrete forms, scaffolds, and temporary frame shelters according to sketches, blueprints, or oral instructions; following established safety rules and regulations; and maintaining a safe and clean environment.

A career in Carpentry is highly physical. It requires personal commitment and a willingness to work outdoors through all seasons. Additional trade requirements include being eighteen years old, possessing a High School Diploma, holding a valid driver’s license, and being and remaining drug-free.

Carpentry program graduates fill many entry-level construction positions. Some areas include abatement, general labor, roofing, siding, concrete, demolition, restoration, insulation, caulking, rough carpentry, finish carpentry, cabinet production, and pattern making to name a few.

The program prepares trainees for the rigors of Apprenticeship, specifically the Carpenters Apprenticeship. Many of our students pursue this career path. The skills taught are transferable to the other building trades. We have introduced and assisted former trainees with placement in the Laborers, Plumbers, Sheet Metal Workers, and Iron Workers Union’s as well.
Certifications include: Completion Certificate, Scaffold User, Scaffold Safety, Occupational Safety and Health Administration 10 and Green Building Awareness.

Instructors David Lummus, and Daniel Volpe bring over fifty years of combined experience as Union, Building Construction Carpenters to the Cleveland Job Corps Carpentry program. They truly believe, “work is available for those willing to work.”
