The Cleveland Job Corps Center’s (CJCC) Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA) program is accredited by National Healthcareer Association (NHA). The role of a CMA is vital to medical facilities. Medical professionals rely on CMA’s to do administrative and clinical procedures effectively thus ensuring patient appointments go smoothly. CMA Instructor Angela Laureano has over twenty-five years of healthcare experience and thirty-one years of experience in customer service. Her medical experience includes working in clinical, clerical, financial in addition to eight years of managing clerical and clinical staff. While in management, Angela facilitated medical assistant, medical clerk, and receptionist interviews.

Instruction includes medical law, ethics, confidentiality, and professional workplace behavior. Students learn the psychological aspects of patient care, basic medical terminology, basic anatomy, and physiology. They will also review important topics including infection control, safety, and emergency first aid procedures. Additionally, electrocardiography theory and practice, phlebotomy, taking and documenting vital signs, and preparing patients for examination and treatment are a few subjects that will be covered in the course. Medical Assistants are also, cross-trained for administrative duties such as answering phones and scheduling appointments.

Allied Health certifications include: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT), Certified Electrocardiogram Technician (CET), and Certified Electronic Health Reports Specialist (CEHRS).
