Cleveland Job Corps Joins the Fight

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Cleveland Job Corps Center planned activities and a fundraiser around breast cancer awareness. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, no matter their race or ethnicity.
During October, Cleveland Job Corps students and staff supported Breast Cancer Awareness with the following activities:
• Participated in the dress-down days raising $450 in donations for the Susan G Komen Foundation.
• Adorned the campus fence on Coit Road with Styrofoam cups and pink ribbons with the message “Join the Fight.”
• On Thursday, October 14, 2021, everyone gathered to acknowledge Breast Cancer Survivors Security Supervisor Jewel Clark, Human Resource Manager Michelle Conner, and Finance Manager Linda Wray and present them with flowers. Office Administration Instructor Nicole Jackson delivered a heartfelt speech about how her mother’s passing due to breast cancer affected her. The event concluded with a balloon release to honor those who have fought, those who are still fighting, and those who have finished their part of the race.
According to the American Cancer Society, when breast cancer is detected early and localized, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%. Early detection includes doing monthly breast self-exams and scheduling regular clinical breast exams and mammograms. Remember, the fight against breast cancer begins with you!
