Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center Announces New Partnership with Speedway LLC!

Speedway LLC (Speedway) is continuing with its long-standing tradition of strong community relations and has entered into a formal employer partnership with the Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center.

Beginning with a six-week unpaid work based learning internship, Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center Office Administration and Culinary Arts students will serve as Speedway Customer Service Representatives.  During this working-interview, a student will be able to directly demonstrate the skills and work ethics Job Corps has taught them while also receiving training as if they were a new Speedway employee.  Speedway store managers have then agreed to hire those Job Corps student interns who have proven their commitment, dedication and ability to succeed as Speedway employees.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for Speedway to effectively assist individuals who live within the communities in which we operate,” states William Becker, Speedway Centralized Recruiter for the Grand Rapids area, “We offer a chance for Job Corps students to get ‘real world’ experience that also comes with the potential to grow that experience into a career.”

With approximately 1,350 stores nationwide, Speedway ranks as the fourth largest chain of company-owned and operated gasoline and convenience stores in the United States.  The Grand Rapids area, home to the Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center, now has more than 25 Speedway stores within a 10 mile radius of the center committed to working with and supporting the advancement of Job Corps students.

Now as students actively engage in their academic and career technical training, they can look forward to a possible career with Speedway.  Offering excellent benefits to both part-time and full-time employees, competitive salaries and store/company advancement opportunities, Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center students will have the opportunity to transition into an outstanding career.

“I am very excited for this internship,” exclaims Office Administration student and newly selected Speedway intern Raquel Johnson, “Speedway is giving me the opportunity to increase my customer service experience and start a career that I can be proud of.”
