Groundhog Job Shadow Day

Over 350 students from the Clearfield Job Corps Center had the opportunity to visit with several local businesses during National Groundhog Job Shadow Week this year.

Eight Health Occupations students rode along with three local fire and ambulance crews on emergency calls. Twenty two mentor students Job Shadowed employees at Clearfield Job Corps for the day. Also, five students shadowed employees at the Management & Training Corporation headquarters in Centerville, and eighty IT trades students were visited by a former Clearfield Job Corps student who now works for the Department of Technology Services for the State of Utah.

In addition to these single day activities, several other students enjoyed Job Shadow tours for the entire week at: Valdez Machining, US Foods, Tony Divino Toyota, Barnes Aerospace, Utah Transit Authority and several other local businesses.

“Job shadowing gives our students insight in to what they need, to become a true competitor in the workforce,” stated Clearfield Job Corps Director, Gary Vesta. “It reinforces to our students the need to concentrate on their education first.”

As part of their training, Clearfield students are placed by center staff in work-based learning internships at area businesses when they are nearing completion of their trade. This way they can learn some additional workplace expectations in addition to their classroom education.
