Men of Action Leadership Conference

Pomp and Curcumstance was definitely a high note at Fred G. Acosta on Friday, March 10, 2017. Family, Friends, Staff, Teachers, and everyone associated with the Center filled the Center to cheer and congratulate students who completed one of 10 programs. Keynote speaker, Richard Fimbres, Tucson City Councilman, gave a pointed address that focused on achievement and the next step that leads to yet another step. Education and trianing does not end here it continues throughout life based on changes and innovations. Teaming with co-workers, friends and family members is what life is all about. This an exciting day, enjoy and celebrate, however when you reach a pause and tomorrow beigns you start another step into your future. Richard commented after the ceremony that this Center is a show case and it is a golden opportunity for youth. He could see why this is a true tresure for our community and workforce development.

 Wow, students working on Tucson Habitat for Humanity homes, four houses in 8 days, these students are making tremendous progress.

Fred G. Orlando Tragedy

When the students of Fred Acosta Job Corps heard about the shooting at the night club in Florida, their hearts went out to the victims and their families. Together, they put together a large card for students to sign and sent poems and a letter expressing their condolences to the LGBTQ community in Orlando, FL.

Arizona State Capital

On June 20th, students from the executive board and members of SGA took a trip to Phoenix, AZ to head to the state capitol. While they were unable to meet with our district representative due to it being their off season, they enjoyed their time at the museum learning about Arizona’s history.

Rodrigo Hernandez enrolled in the Job Corps program sixteen months ago and completed his Electrical Wiring Vocational training earlier this month. Rodrigo appreciated the opportunity for applying hands on installation and getting more experience in wiring. Fred G. Acosta Job Corps artist Lester A. was invited to display his colorful and distinctive artwork at the “Mi Musica” Art Exhibit running September 3rd through October 1st at the Raices Taller 222 Art Gallery & Workshop. This was Lester’s second opportunity to display his paintings.
