Security cadets helped supervise the walk to school day on October 3, 2012. The students at Fogarty Elementary school loved the bright green vest the students wore. This helped the young elementary students to know where to walk.
Military Day at GJCC was on October 12, 2012. Brigadier General Gregory L. Gerguson , Chief of Staff of the Oklahoma Air National Guard was the guest speaker. The Tuskegee Airman, Staff that have served in the military and Logan County POWS were honored.
For the third year the GJCC Tiger Executive Students have partnered with the Guthrie Rotary Club to help with the Annual Shred Day and Make A Difference Day project. This was on October 13, 2012. The GJCC was host to the American Red Cross with a quarterly Blood Drive at the center on October 9, 2012. Staff and students from the Health Occupations trade assisted with the event. Over 111 units of blood were collected.
The Guthrie Job Corps Security Trainees assisted with parking and security for the Annual Blue Grass Festival for three full days on October 4, 5 and 6th, 2012. Guthrie Job Corps Center Security Trainees and work-based learning coordinator, Julie McPeek assisted the Guthrie School Children in the Annual “Walk your child to school day” on October 3, 2012. This was partnered with “Get Fit” Guthrie.
The Guthrie Job Corps Center celebrated Universal Safety Week the week of June 11-15th. Safety activities were scheduled daily for students to participate in to show how you can have fun and be safe at the same time.
Lateisha Raven, Carpentry student at the Guthrie Job Corps Center received the Diamond Excellence Award from the Department of Labor Dallas Region for women in Non Traditional Occupations. Center Director Priscilla Mayberry presented her with the award.
Guthrie Job Corps students and staff volunteered to help with the Special Olympics at Stillwater Oklahoma on May 11, 2012. A great time of fun and service was enjoyed by all with also getting to take a picture with the Oklahoma State University Cheerleaders.
