Aliyah Crabbe graduated from high school in May 2016, but did not immediately pursue further education due to the cost. “I always wanted to go into the medical field, but I just didn’t know how I would pay for classes.” Instead, she began working at Target while she tried to figure out her next steps. After a few months, she discovered Job Corps, and learned that she could get earn medical certifications for free.
She applied for the program and made her way to Blue Ridge Job Corps, where she would go on to earn certifications in Clinical Medical Assistant, EKG Technician, Phlebotomy Technician, and Patient Care Technician. Aliyah was also very involved in community service, as she volunteered at the Atkins Food Pantry, as well as the Remote Access Medical Clinic.
Upon graduation, Aliyah returned home to Fredericksburg, where she is employed as a medical assistant and allergy technician at the Children’s Clinic of Fredericksburg. She stated that she is very happy in her role, and she loves working with the kids. On a personal note, she also got married last month!
Aliyah also took the opportunity to advice current and future students, stating, “Always focus on your goals and remember why you chose to come to Job Corps in the first place, and you will be successful.”
