Angelica Washington
Age: 22
Hometown: Richmond, VA
Region: Philadelphia
Center: Blue Ridge
Dates enrolled: 8/16/2016- 11/28/2017
Training: CMA, High School Diploma

Angelica Washington grew up with her mother and her sister in Richmond, VA. She attended Huguenot High School in Richmond, but she did not complete, so she was searching for a way to earn her diploma. Angelica was familiar with Job Corps through her boyfriend who was attending Flatwoods Job Corps in Coeburn, VA. He spoke highly of the program, so she decided to enroll at Blue Ridge to pursue an education in health care.
While in Job Corps, Angelica was a fantastic student. She earned the high school diploma that she had hoped for, and she also completed the Clinical Medical Assistant trade and passed that certification. Angelica also participated in variety of activities outside of the classroom, serving as a member of the Student Government Association and be a part of “Read to Lead” and other activities with local elementary school children. Angelica’s sister Candace was also interested in continuing her education, and after a recommendation from Angelica, she also enrolled at Blue Ridge. To be closer to her two daughters, Angelica’s mother relocated from Richmond to Marion, VA, and they like the area so much that they continue to reside only a few minutes from Blue Ridge.
Angelica began working as a Direct Support Professional with Rescare, but she soon realized that it wasn’t the job for her. She began looking for other openings and was made aware of an available within Blue Ridge Job Corps as a Residential Advisor. “The opportunity to come back to Blue Ridge and help other students through their Job Corps journey was too good to pass up,” Angelica stated. She has now been a member of the Blue Ridge “Village” for a couple months, and she is loving it. “Having RAs who can made me feel comfortable and safe when I was away from home made my Job Corps experience, and I hope I can be that person for the current students,” she said. The staff and students of Blue Ridge Job Corps are thrilled to have her back, and are excited to be working with her.
Angelica and her husband Markie were married last year, and they welcome their daughter Stevie, who Angelica says is her inspiration for everything.
