Cheyenne Grogan grew up in Hampton, VA and graduated in 2014 from New Kent High School. While she had earned her high school diploma, she hadn’t set specific goals beyond that point, and she found herself working at a local pizza parlor making minimum wage. Looking for a way to jump start herself into a fulfilling career, she began researching her options. As it turns out, her father was a previous Job Corps graduate, having attended Flatwoods Job Corps Center in Coeburn, VA. He encouraged Cheyenne to look into all of the various career pathways that are available through Job Corps. She was drawn towards health care, so she decided that Blue Ridge would be the best option for her.
During her time on center, Cheyenne completed not only one, but two trades, and is not certified as a medical assistant as well as a nursing assistant. She was also an active member in the Marion community, serving stints in the Student Government Association and volunteering at local elementary schools and food banks. Cheyenne states, “The person that inspired the most was Mr. Mike Steele. Whenever I felt like giving up he always encouraged me to keep going and complete what I had started.”
Cheyenne currently resides in Hillsville, VA, and she is employed as a travel CNA for Nursing Spring company located in Roanoke, VA. Cheyenne would like to extend her gratitude to all of the staff members and her fellow classmates who helped her to succeed.
