Blue Ridge students get involved in public Open House

On Wednesday May 3, 2017 Blue Ridge Job Corps held an open house to the many residents and area institutions. The open house featured Outreach & Admission counselors on site to speak with interested individuals about Blue Ridge. Blue Ridge students took a large role in the open house as members from the Student government executive board conducted tours. Students from the Medical Office Support registered all the guest. Students from the Certified Nursing Assistant Trade did blood pressure checks, and students from the Medical Assistant trade did glucose testing.

The diverse crowd brought in community leaders to show their support in Blue Ridge. Mayor David Helmes, Circuit Court Clerk John Graham, and Director of Marion Economic Ken Health just to name a few.  Police chiefs, town council members, and representatives from local work force investment board members also came to learn more about Blue Ridge. In an email on the day following the open house Melody Counts bridge instructor at the Washington County Career & Technical School said  “We had a great visit to Blue Ridge Job Corp yesterday. The folks were very helpful, answered many questions and ce programs we got a tour from one of the students! (Even the dorm rooms!) I was impressed with the professionalism the staff and students displayed. On the way home one of our students said “I am excited about my future” since she thought it seemed like a place she wants to attend.  (This is why we do what we do!!)”

The open house was considered a huge success, and produced multiple potential students. It proved to many people that Blue Ridge Job Corps is operating at a high level, and is effectively molding young minds to focus on success.
