Carl D. Perkins Job Corps honored by HYS for excellence in 2014

Thomas Rainey, center director of the Carl D. Perkins Job Corps Center, walked away with a stack of awards recognizing the center’s performance in 2014 during the Horizons Youth Services annual awards banquet. The banquet was the culmination of a three-day HYS Leadership Meeting held Jan. 20-22 at Camp Horizons, Harrisonburg, VA.

Perkins took top honors for the following awards: Safety & Environmental Health; On-Board Strength (with a calendar year OBS of 103.7%); Outcome Measurement System – High Performance Center (currently ranked 4th in the nation in OMS); Finance & Administration; and Highest Academic Achievement for both Literacy and Numeracy.

In addition to 1st place award plaques, Perkins also received the following monetary awards: $500 for Safety & Environmental Health; $1000 for OBS; $1,000 for OMS; and $500 for Finance & Administration.

Perkins also received the second place award and $250 for the Highest Rated HR Department; and third for CTT Achievements – Combined Average Active and Separated Outcomes. The center’s carpentry program received third place in the Best Career Technical Training Programs category. The center also was recognized for having the Best Winter Break Return Rate of all HYS centers, a recognition that included a $250 award.
