Advanced Security Students at Carl D. Perkins receive TASER training from the Pikeville City Police Department

Advanced Security students at Carl D Perkins Job Corps Center are committed to their training, even if it hurts a little bit. They endure exceptional training to ensure they are equipped with the skills necessary to enter the corrections, law enforcement, military, and security workforce. On November 21 Pikeville Police Officers Joseph Slone, and Josh Tackett shared their knowledge of the use of TASER with the advanced security students at Carl D. Perkins Job Corps Center. Advanced Security students were first given a set of two written exams focusing on the requirements to becoming a Police Officer. Students were then tested on their physical abilities and training skills, based on the Pikeville Police Department requirements which include students’ knowledge of Tasers, communication skills, Use of Force continuum, and targeting accuracy. Pikeville Police Officers Joseph Slone and Josh Tackett are great assets to the Advanced Security students at Carl D. Perkins. They help to ensure students are versed in the many dynamics they need to become successful in a variety of law enforcement fields. TASER training is just one of the many credentials security students can obtain. Carl D. Perkins Security students move into meaningful careers in law enforcement, corrections, the military, and as Security Officers within the Transportation Security Administration. Students take their training and their career choices very seriously; In these types of careers the public welfare is in their hands. Alexis Andrade, Keefona Clark, Ariceldata Horn, Nohoana McClure, Roger Metz, Colin Miller, Justin Reyes, Isiah Riddick, Lawrence Tamanaha-Aloiau Jr., Taylor Thomas, Zachorie Craney, and Jonathan Harris attended the training and were accompanied by their Advanced Security Instructor Beverly Compton.
