Carl D. Perkins gets visit from Pike County’s Educational Fire Simulator on fire safety training.

Thursday October 16, the Perkins students got some valuable fire safety training. CJ Childers from the Pike County Emergency Management Agency brought the million dollar mobile fire trailer for fire safety presentations for students and staff. Each student got to go into unit in groups of eight to see simulations of grease fires, oven fires, and trash can fires in the kitchen and what to do if you have one of these happen in your home, and how to use a fire extinguisher. Students then got to go to the mock bedroom, to learn what to do in case of a house fire. Students got to experience first hand, the smoke coming under the door, not being able to see, feeling the door for heat, and last not to open the door if it does feel hot.

Both presentations where so real that one could would feel like it was actually not a presentation. This is one of the best teaching tools for students of all ages. Perkins was pleased, that the presenters incorporated dorm safety into the bedroom simulator.

Perkins wants students and staff to be ready in any situation, as part of the ongoing focus on safety for students and staff. We want to thank the Pike County Emergency Management and the Prestonsburg Fire Dept. for assisting with the presentations. Staff worked non stop from 9-2 until all students and staff got to see each presentation.
