Carl D. Perkins Job Corps academic team rises to the challenge

Students with the Carl D. Perkins Job Corps Center’s academic team finished well ahead of teams from Muhlenberg Job Corps Center and Charleston Job Corps Center this past week to bring home an impressive win.

The students, coached by Susie Grossl and Brandon Conley, scored 79 points while Muhlenberg  finished second with 56 points and Charleston rounded out the event with 42 points in total.

“We’re very proud of our students,” Grossl said after the team returned with the win. “They did great.”

The competition was a precursor, a mock event, to the district competition to be held on Aug. 23 when Perkins will play host and be aiming for a third straight win in as many years, as well as a trip to the regional event.

Students making up this year’s team for Perkins include Jennifer Gregory, Maurice Shatteen, Michael Maloney, Jeremy Stanley, Jacob Gardner and Markie Brooks.
