Carl D. Perkins Job Corps Center Host High School Seniors and Parents

The Carl D. Perkins Job Corps Center hosted a presentation April 11 for local high school seniors and their parents to discuss programs offered at the Perkins Job Corps and through its partnership with Big Sandy Community & Technical College.

Culinary students Trey Varret (is his name Varret or Verret?) and Kahlyl Hodnett show off some carving skills as they make centerpieces for the high school event.
Technical College. Students and Instructors were on hand to answer questions and share experiences. Students and instructors from both the Security & Protective Services career technical training program and the Advanced Security program discussed certifications students earn in both programs and demonstrated some of the hands-on training they receive. Perkins staff also shared information about the center’s partnership with Big Sandy Community & Technical College that allows students enrolled in the security programs at Perkins to take two introductory criminal justice classes during the summer.

All guests enjoyed sampling some of the culinary arts class’ fine cuisine.

The Perkins Job Corps senior management team is discussing expanding the center’s partnership with Big Sandy Community & Technical College to give additional students enrolled in other career technical training programs opportunities to earn college credit
