Carl D. Perkins Job Corps student gets personal invitation from the Governors office to attend Shaping Our Appalachian Region (SOAR) event.

Conversation leads to Invitation for 22 year old Christine Taul from Bonneville, KY. She has been enrolled in the Perkins Job Corps for 2 years, completing SPS and is currently enrolled in Big Sandy Community & Technical College majoring in Criminal Justice.

During a recent visit on February 5, as part of the National Job Shadow Day to the capitol in Frankfort KY, Christine along with Jimmie Slone business community liaison had the opportunity to visit the governor’s office and meet with Colmon Elridege the Executive. Assistant to the Governor. Christine discussed with Coleman using old abandoned coal refinery and turn into a recycling plant. To hire the displaced coal miners to sort through the trash, plastic, aluminum, paper products, compost burnable, recycles and what cannot be recycled will then go to the land field.

Elridge was so impressed with Christine’s innovative idea, that he invited her to attend the upcoming SOAR summit in Pikeville, KY on February 16 2015. Christine will be attending the sessions and particularly the one on environmental and presenting her ideal with the support of Elridge.
