Carl D. Perkins Job Corps students provide community service to Dewey Lake

In an effort to clean up our parks and recreation lakeshore, Carl D. Perkins Job Corps Security students have been providing community service this week of March 9-13 at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park. Every year through a collaborative partnership between Jenny Wiley State Resort Park, The US Army Corps of Engineers and Friends of Jenny Wiley, the Park hosts and event called Operation Clean Sweep. This year, the event that was scheduled for Saturday, March 14 has been postponed due to the Coronavirus disease precautions. During this event volunteers and community members are encouraged to come out and help clean up Dewey Lake at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park in preparation for the upcoming season. The Park hosts an estimated 1 Million visitors each year through hiking, biking, kayaking, boating, fishing, camping, lodging, and swimming to name a few. In 2019 the Operation Clean Sweep event hosted 230 volunteers and they collected an estimated 15-20 tons of trash. This year, Our security students got a head start and volunteered their time daily throughout the week prior to the event postponement. 27 students volunteered and they collected over 135 bags of garbage and debris from the lakeshore. We are honored by our students drive to serve the community and we frequently utilize the park for hiking and recreational activities.
