Carl D. Perkins Job Corps Students, staff join hundreds of volunteers for annual cleanup

Carl D. Perkins Job Corps students and staff joined hundreds of other volunteers June 17 for the annual Ohio River Sweep. The massive clean-up project spanned the six states that border the Ohio River, including West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky. Volunteers picked up trash along more than 3000 miles of shoreline. This is the 28th year of the River Sweep, and the first year that Carl D. Perkins Job Corps has participated. The annual event is sponsored by the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission and has the goal of cleaning up the Ohio River and its tributaries. This year’s event resulted in approximately 20,000 tons of trash being collected.

Participating Job Corps students agreed that this project was a great way to give back to the community
