Carl D. Perkins Security Graduate obtains employment as a Sheriff’s Deputy in Marlboro County, South Carolina!

A recent Security graduate from Carl D. Perkins Job Corps obtained employment as a Sheriff’s Deputy for the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office in Bennettsville, South Carolina. Garrett Williams, dropped out of high school at the age of 18 to work construction with his brother and help support his family. He worked in the construction field for 2 years until he learned about the Job Corps program. He decided to enroll in June of 2018 to obtain his High School Diploma and pursue his dream of working in law enforcement. By April of 2019, Garrett completed his High School Diploma, the basic security trade offered at Carl D. Perkins and obtained his practical and tactical handcuffing, ICS-100 Intro to Incident Command, and OSHA-10 certifications. Garrett says “Because of Job Corps I’m a Sheriff Deputy, and I’m loving it!” He is currently completing 4 weeks of training with the sheriffs office before moving onto the 5 week training at the police academy in Columbia, SC. Garrett recommends the Job Corps program to anyone is who looking to improve their quality of life. He states “I’m a prime example, that if you apply yourself, great things can happen.”
