Carl D. Perkins Security & Protective Services Students work KY Derby

May -6 the Carl D. Perkins Job Corps Security & Protective Services students had a chance of a lifetime to work at the KY Derby. The Derby is one of the most prestigious and popular sporting events held. Students left for Louisville on Wednesday May 3, with Perkins chaperones Ms. Tracy Kute and Jeana McKenzie, Jimmie Wilson, Beverly Compton, and Harold Auxier, Students and staff were housed at the University of Louisville, and shuttled to Churchill Downs each day. Students worked Pre-Derby events on May 4, the Oaks on the 5th, and finally the KY Derby on the 6th. Students were posted through out Church Hill downs doing various security jobs. The Perkins students worked 12 and 14 hour shifts each day, and learned a lot of valuable on the job training. Students worked for CSC Security and Tipton Staffing, and were able to earn $9.50 an hour, to save for their transition out of the program when complete.

Carl D. Perkins would like to thank CSC Security and Tipton staffing for the partnership and providing students with this great opportunity.
