City of Prestonsburg, Carl D. Perkins, and HGTV’s Hometown Makeover

City of Prestonsburg, Carl D. Perkins, and HGTV’s Hometown Makeover

Monday February 3, 2020 The Mayor of Prestonsburg, Les Stapleton invited all members of the community to assist with showcasing the City of Prestonsburg in an effort to win HGTV’s Hometown Makeover contest. The Mayor made a face book request for all organizations to come together for the audition and final submission. Carl D. Perkins students, and members of the community including cyclist, hikers, sports teams, and clubs gathered at the Mural at the intersection of 114 and North Arnold Avenue to record their submission. Prestonsburg Tourism officials coached the crowd of over 100 community members and the local Middle school cheerleaders to plead their case to HGTV. Participants of the video submission chanted “Take over our town” after a few words from the Mayor. On January 7, 2020 HGTV launched a nationwide call to find towns that could use a Hometown touch and a little TLC. The HGTV television shows hosts Ben and Erin Napier have an extensive background in remodeling homes, and renovating their own hometown of Laurel, Mississippi. Submissions ended February 4th. It’s an exciting time as we wait to see who the lucky winner will be. Carl D. Perkins students were excited to be involved in the small town charm of Prestonsburg. Pictured with the sasquatch mascot from the Mountain Muse shop are students Kenneth Bolden, Christopher Collier, Keenan Butler, Duncan Duderstadt, Trinity Bolden, Emily Sullivan, and Tamera Crawford.
