Carville Job Corps Center Host it’s 20th Semi Annual Commencement & Awards Ceremony

Carville Job Corps Center hosted its 20th Semi Annual Commencement Ceremony on August 21st in the recreation center. Seventy-Seven graduates were awarded High School Diplomas, High School Equivalency Diplomas and Career Technical Training Certificates were also commenced. Commencement speaker was Ms. Jamie Mayes of Monroe, Louisiana, an inspiring author, poet, English teacher and motivational speaker. Ms. Mayes is also member of the NAACP and was awarded the Women of Fire Award in 2013. Jamie stated serving her community’s an important way to show appreciation, In addition to working with various social and political organizations year-round, she serves as a mentor to several teen and young adult women as they transition from high school to college. Former student and graduate. Cassie Badon a current resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana addressed the graduates with her motto of never giving up as the stresses will come, but remember seek to accomplish your goals. Cassie is currently employed with Ochsner Medical System as a Clinical Medical Assistant. In her off hours Cassie is committed to the works of the Eastern Star, serving her community and making a positive difference in the lives of others. The Center also hosted an Award Ceremony for the Graduates the Day before Graduation. Guest Speaker for the Awards was the Honorable Mayor Lionel Johnson, Jr. city of St. Gabriel in Iberville Parish located in the Community of the Carville Job Corps Center. The Mayor addressed the graduates telling them that to have not one plan but two plans on place so that if PLAN A fails, pick PLAN B. Be sure to know that you are never a failure to your own Success.
