We Salute You!” Veterans – Carville Job Corps Center

Carville Job Corps Center students and staff honored US Servicemen that are currently active, retired, reservist or deceased the week of November 5, 2012 thru November 12, 2012. The Center honored former student veterans, staff and community veterans with a play entitled, “We Salute Our Veterans” preformed by the Carville Drama Department. All veterans in attendance were recognized and given a token of appreciation for their service to our country. Guest Speaker was Army Staff Sargent William Campbell a Carville former employee. A reception for all veterans in attendance followed. U S National Guardsmen from the Gillis Long Center visited the Center’s Career Preparation classes and addressed the students on how their duties have impacted their lives, their families and the lives of many citizens across the United States. The Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Reserve Louisiana, offers a variety of amenities including two fishing ponds, a greenhouse, a nature trail, an assisted living community and a chapel. The staff provides complete medical care including skilled nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, Alzheimer/dementia care, an in-house pharmacy, hospice care, and transportation services to VA specialty needs clinics and the VA hospital in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Carville students and staff traveled to the Southeast center and assisted residents with recreational activities, lunch and other patient needs for a day.
