Charleston Job Corps Center held it’s quarterly CRC Meeting-Oct. 21, 2016

The Charleston Job Corps Center (CJCC) operated by Horizons Youth Services, held its quarterly Community Relations Council (CRC) meeting on Friday, Oct. 21, 2016 in the center’s gymnasium. Several members were on hand for presentations from the Career Services, Social Development, Student Personnel Office and Training departments. In addition, student Carissa Holmes gave a report on the center’s Youth-2-Youth Partners 4 Peace Campaign against violence.

The meeting was called to order by Cyrus Dunbar, Student Government Association (SGA) President and Catrea Young, SGA Vice President, read “Follow Through” the daily motivator by Ralph Marston. Lunch was provided by Tamara’s Catering. Laura McCullough, Vice President, Workforce & Economic Development, BridgeValley Community Technical College serves as the CRC President, and provided an update from the executive board. Board members attending included Kali Vernon, Office of Senator Capito, Ray Woods, WV Bureau of Senior Services, Barbara Cary, WVSU Upward Bound program, Councilman Andy Richardson, City of Charleston. A special thanks to Attorney Larry Rowe, WV Legislature, for attending.

Several center updates were provided by Jeffrey Burdette, Social Development Director, Andrew Walters, Career Services Director, Deborah Wolfgang, CTT Manager, Teresa Sypolt, Human Resources Manager, Lisa Lewis, Student Personnel Officer, Tia Welch, BCL and Willie Brown, Center Director. CRC Membership provided announcements of upcoming events at their respective organizations. In honor of breast cancer awareness month, a special presentation was made to executive secretary, Tena Jones who is a breast cancer survivor of 5+ years.

Job Corps is a no-cost education and career technical training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16-24 improve the quality of their lives through career technical and academic training. The Charleston Job Corps Center is overseen by the Philadelphia Regional Office of Job Corps and is operated by Horizons Youth Services.
