Charleston Job Corps Center hosts “Girl Talk” with the University of Charleston-March 21, 2018

The Charleston Job Corps Center (CJCC) operating under Horizons Youth Services (HYS) hosted “Girl Talk” a sisterhood session for female students sponsored by Y2Y (Youth-2-Youth) Partners for Peace, S.A.D.D. (Students against Destructive Decisions) and the University of Charleston (U.C.). Our U.C. guest speakers were Skyler Hunt, Coordinator of Student Involvement, Office of Student Life and Michaila McAnuff, U.C. Student.

The topics addressed were social media, self-respect and healthy relationships. In honor of National Violence Prevention Month, topics of bullying and cyber-bullying were addressed. “Be mindful of what you put on social media” said McAnuff.

Several activities were conducted with the students and gift bags were distributed courtesy of U.C. The presenters engaged the audience with questions regarding healthy relationships. McAnuff said, “Communication is key.” Skyler said, “It starts with self-respect.” Y2Y & S.A.D.D. chapter students include Alonzo Hall, Ameir Lewis, Sarah Lynch, Phillip Holcomb, Angel Bullet and Naomi Washington with facilitators Tia Welch, Teresa Sypolt and Yolanda Toombs.
